Background
The initial ideas were developed by Arshia Zakeri and Habib Rahman from the team and won awards at the Google GDSC 2024 and Canada's most prominent AI hackathon, GenAI Genesis 2024. Later, we worked on the idea to develop a platform and potentially launch it as a startup.
Team structure
Our team includes two product designers and five developers, including front-end, back-end and AI engineers.
My Roles & Responsibilities
As a Product Designer and team leader at IntelliCourse, I led the end-to-end design process, focusing on creating user-centred solutions. My responsibilities included conducting user research, developing wireframes, prototypes, and scalable design systems, and collaborating closely with our developers to ensure seamless implementation. I also guided the team in aligning design strategies with user needs and business goals, resulting in a platform that significantly enhanced user engagement and efficiency.

IntelliCourse was inspired by the growing demand for accessible AI education. It aims to empower individuals to thrive in an AI-driven world. IntelliCourse offers a diverse range of AI courses for learners of all levels, providing interactive learning experiences and real-world applications. Our team built the first version of IntelliCourse using a combination of advanced technology and pedagogical expertise, collaborating closely across interdisciplinary teams.
Orator.ai | Second Place at GDSC Hacks 2024
Orator.ai is inspired by our fascination with learning, self-awareness, and self-improvement challenges. Public speaking is a skill that benefits us and motivates and influences others. However, it can be difficult to find the right path for growth. Orator.ai is more than just a public speaking app; it helps guide your learning journey, providing feedback and analytics as you upload videos to enhance your skills. After uploading a video, it’s compressed and transcribed using advanced technologies like Google Cloud’s Speech-to-Text, VertexAI Vision, and Gemini. This data is analyzed to provide key feedback, personalized lessons, and relevant educational videos through YouTube, allowing users to track their progress and optimize their learning.

Design
IntelliCourse user journey begins through a simple, one-page website to promote the services and subscription models, a brief about the platform and its mission, and contact options. The user is required to login/signup to access the dashboard.
The user then will see a dashboard (Intelliboard) with a left side-nav bar. Since I wanted to make the generate course accessible for the users, I put the Generate Course button at the top bar of almost every page (inside, every course would have a secondary nav bar with the option Share Course replaced instead).
The main page of the dashboard is not yet customizable; however, it features widget boxes to show the courses the user is taking or has completed, a calendar and scheduled events, as well as an overview of their time spent.
This project has been designed with precise structures, such as components, variables, and structured layers like containers/frames and auto layouts, so the developers can better understand the design structure. Also, to increase the design's accuracy, new designers can have a clear understanding and quick approach to the project when we expand our design team.
What was the particular challenge of the project from a UX point of view?
The primary UX challenge was designing a platform that caters to users with vastly diverse learning goals, skill levels, and accessibility needs. Balancing personalization with simplicity was critical to ensuring an intuitive experience. Creating adaptive AI-driven features required iterative testing to make learning paths effective and engaging. Another significant challenge was enabling community-based learning while maintaining a seamless, distraction-free interface for individual users. Solving these required a deep understanding of user needs, inclusive design principles, and robust usability testing.
IntelliCourse is now ready for its first public testing through a beta launch on January 25, 2025. This will bring us more user feedback and more updates on this page as our team makes further progress.
